GSM Music Lectures Series

 

The Gorin School of Music announces an upcoming lecture series on Composers, Stylistic Periods, and Music Genres. These lectures will be presented to promote a deeper understanding and appreciation of music.

Each of the four lectures will last ninety minutes and will include an overview of Time, Music, Composers, and Performers. Mrs. Rufina Gorin, musical director of GSM, will present them. Please see her biographical information under faculty on the GSM website.

 

 

 

 

October 25, 2008 (Saturday at 4 p.m.)

“The Best of the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Contemporary Periods” (Part I)
Selected compositions by J. S. Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Frederic Chopin, and Dmitry Shostakovich will be examined.

November 8, 2008 (Saturday at 4 p.m.)

“The Best of the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Contemporary Periods” (Part II)
Selected compositions will include the music of J. S. Bach, Ludwig Van Beethoven, Sergey Rachmaninoff, and Aram Khachaturian.


January 24, 2009 (Saturday at 4 p.m.)

“Chamber Music and the Loves of Emma Bardac”
Presentation of a French Impressionist Musical Docudrama featuring Katia & Marielle Labeque (piano duo); music by Claud Debussy, Gabriel Faure, and George Bizet.

 

February 14, 2009 (Saturday at 4 p.m.)

“Introduction to Opera & Ballet”
Excerpts from the best works of artists of our time.
